Angel Battle Tops

Ever wonder what I do in my (nonexistent) down time? You know, my time away from the Mardi Gras 3000 universe? No? Oh... okay. Then click a different tab on the menu and away you go ;)

For those of you who stayed (Hi, Mom! Hi, Jennifer!), I spend my extra minutes painting (people, abstracts, commissioned work) and... designing battle tops.

I like to use my hands (which is why I never mind prepping MG3K cards) and I find the satisfying *click* of Lego bricks very meditative. Of course, to further prove my most extreme geekness, I must admit that I most often build my kits in Lego Digital Designer first, only then do I buy the kits and build in the real world.

Years ago, some buddies and I got into *metal* BayBlades. We used to play every night. My favorite moment was when a most excellent top spun up out of the custom arena and broke a lamp. Heh heh. I'd always hated that pink lamp.

Anyway, then I was visiting my publisher (Jennifer) and she and her partner and their kids were literally laying on the wood floor laughing and playing with these amazing Lego Spinners. These tops are made from Lego bricks of whatever color (and of several shapes) that you choose. They were "invented" by a threesome of nine years olds... and they completely rock. To this day, I'm not sure why Lego didn't launch a sweet battle top line unless BayBlades have some kind of all-inclusive trademark action going on.

Fast forward several years: I've given up on the $9.99 metal BayBlades and I spend my meditation time building Angel Battle Tops. These customized tops are color coded with special attacks and clash against each other with bejeweled "angel wings." The tops can clash anywhere but really rock in a small Angel Battle Arena--complete with unique obstacles. I'll post my official back story and battle rules in the Download Center.

So far, I've designed three four-top teams and two arenas, all of which are available for sale through Lego. I'm really proud of these. No, I don't get any kind of kick back and Lego owns all my ideas without compensation, but I find my little top universe so much fun and so relaxing that I don't care about the corporate machine. Any way, the biggest Angel Battle Tops fans are little kiddos... who will probably grow up to play Mardi Gras 3000 :)

My Lego homepage is just cute little blob on the web... and I have no buddies. Sad. Unless, of course, some of you go over and... but no, that's too much to ask. ;) My Lego handle is very original: EJAngel

Angel Battle Tops tournament, anyone? :D Maybe I should write chapter books in this universe? Hm. Let me call my publisher.
